Supervision

⭐ Why Choose me ‘Laurie’ as Your Supervisor?

Choosing the right supervisor is an important part of feeling supported, confident and grounded in your therapeutic work. Supervisees often describe me as warm, steady, thoughtful and genuinely invested in their growth — someone who offers both sensitivity and clarity, and who holds the supervisory relationship with care.

⭐ My Humanistic & Integrative Approach

My supervisees come from a range of Humanistic modalities. My core training is grounded in the Person‑Centred approach, and over time I have integrated additional therapeutic skills to offer a flexible, relational and integrative style of supervision.

I completed my NCIP Accredited (Level 7) Advanced Diploma in Counselling Supervision in October 2024, and since then I have supported counsellors at different stages of their professional journey — from trainees to experienced practitioners.

⭐ Supervision as a Joint Endeavour

I believe supervision is a joint endeavour. Together we explore:

  • your client work
  • your role within the therapeutic relationship
  • the wider systems and contexts influencing your practice

This reflective process supports you to enhance the quality of your work, transform your client relationships, and continue developing yourself, your practice and the wider profession — in line with the principles taught by Hawkins & Shohet.

My approach also draws on Petruska Clarkson’s Multiplicity of Therapeutic Levels/Relations, recognising the many layers present within therapeutic work.

⭐ A Hybrid, Eclectic Supervision Model

My training covered seven supervision models — beyond the three core frameworks — allowing me to tailor supervision to:

  • your modality
  • your personality
  • your learning style
  • your clients’ challenges and needs

This creates a flexible, hybrid and eclectic supervision style that adapts to what you need, rather than expecting you to fit a rigid model.

⭐ Consultative Supervision for Professionals & Carers

Alongside clinical supervision for counsellors, I also offer consultative supervision for professionals and those working or caring for people. This provides a much‑needed space to prevent work pressures from bleeding into everyday life.

Consultative supervision can be offered:

  • individually, or
  • within small groups of three to four participants

This service supports emotional wellbeing, reflective thinking and sustainable working practices.

⭐ Who I Work Best With

I work particularly well with:

  • mature supervisees
  • practitioners who value a close, supportive supervisory relationship
  • those with an inquisitive nature, a desire to learn, and a strong inner wisdom
  • counsellors seeking warmth, sensitivity, humility and genuine care in their supervision

In supervision, I help practitioners explore:

how to maintain attunement when communication styles differ

⭐ Deaf‑Aware & Hearing Loss‑Inclusive Supervision

Most importantly as an experienced senior audiologist with strong Deaf awareness and a deep understanding of Deaf culture, I bring specialist knowledge to the supervisory relationship. This allows me to support counsellors who work with Deaf clients, hard‑of‑hearing clients, or those who rely on adapted communication approaches.

I understand the unique relational, cultural and communication dynamics present in Deaf and hearing‑loss therapy work. This includes the importance of clear visual communication, lip‑reading considerations, basic BSL use, and the wider systemic challenges Deaf clients often face. My aim is to help you feel confident, supported and well‑equipped to offer safe, inclusive and attuned therapeutic work — whether you’re already working with Deaf clients or preparing to do so.

  • accessible communication within therapy
  • relational nuances when working with Deaf clients
  • cultural sensitivity and identity considerations
  • ethical and practical challenges around language, interpretation and inclusion

This specialist perspective sits alongside my Humanistic and integrative approach, offering a supervisory space that is both relational and accessibility‑focused.
